Tobin Starr + Partners was founded by professionals who have experienced great success at pre-eminent design firms.  With a strong desire to stay immersed in the craft of architecture, planning and design, they've built a firm that strongly engages their clients and brings together diverse talents and backgrounds.

David Tobin founded the firm in 1999, after working on high-profile projects for eminent international firms Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and Polshek Partnership in New York City, as well as Skidmore Owings & Merrill in Denver. In 2001, Jimmy Dudley joined David as firm principal, bringing a broad based background in design, including commercial, educational and single-& multi-family residential projects. Prior to arriving in Charlotte in 1995, Jimmy spent several years in New York working for the internationally-acclaimed architect Rafael Viñoly.

Steve Starr brought his restaurant and retail branding, design and program management expertise to Tobin Starr + Partners in 2007, after leaving Little Diversified Architectural Consulting where he grew the restaurant and store design studio into a national powerhouse.  Prior to his tenure at Little, Steve worked with renowned designer David Rockwell in New York City.

By design, Tobin Starr + Partners remains a small firm, and also by design, continues to add significant resources.  The result of this strategic assemblage of talent and resources continues to yield fitting, yet unique solutions through diverse skill sets. Moving forward, Tobin Starr + Partners' growth will remain measured and purposeful because of our founding commitment to nurture close, long-term connections with our projects, clients and colleagues.
